Product SEO Settings

Optimize your product pages for search engines with meta titles, descriptions, URL handles, and image alt text.

Product SEO Settings

Search engine optimization (SEO) helps your products appear in Google, Bing, and other search results. Nuvi gives you control over the key SEO fields for every product page.

Meta Title

The meta title is the clickable headline in search results. To set it:

  1. Open a product in the admin panel.
  2. Scroll to the "SEO" section (or expand it if collapsed).
  3. Enter a meta title of 50–60 characters.

Best practices for meta titles:

  • Include the product name and a key benefit (e.g., "Organic Cotton T-Shirt — Soft, Sustainable, Affordable").
  • Place the most important keywords at the beginning.
  • Avoid keyword stuffing — write for humans, not just search engines.

If left blank, Nuvi uses the product title as the meta title automatically.

Meta Description

The meta description is the short paragraph below the title in search results. It should be 120–160 characters and include:

  • A brief description of the product.
  • A reason to click (unique selling point, price, or promotion).
  • A call to action like "Shop now" or "Free shipping available".

Example: "Shop our organic cotton t-shirt — breathable, ethically made, and available in 8 colors. Free shipping on orders over $50."

URL Handle

The URL handle is the part of the product URL after your domain: yourstore.com/products/organic-cotton-tshirt. Tips for handles:

  • Keep them short and descriptive.
  • Use hyphens to separate words (not underscores or spaces).
  • Include your primary keyword.
  • Avoid changing the handle after the product is published — it breaks existing links and hurts SEO. If you must change it, set up a redirect.

Image Alt Text

Alt text describes your product images for search engines and screen readers. For each product image:

  1. Click on the image in the product editor.
  2. Enter descriptive alt text (e.g., "Blue organic cotton t-shirt on wooden hanger, front view").
  3. Keep it under 125 characters.

Good alt text improves your chances of appearing in Google Image Search and makes your store accessible to visually impaired visitors.

Additional SEO Tips

  • Write unique descriptions for every product — avoid copying the manufacturer's text.
  • Use structured product descriptions with bullet points for features.
  • Add your store to Google Search Console to monitor how products appear in search results.
  • Use the AI assistant: "Write an SEO-optimized description for my new sneakers".
